A federal appeals court granted the Biden Administration’s request to temporarily lift an injunction blocking the student loan relief provisions of its Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan. The student loan relief provisions allow the administration to lower borrowers’ monthly payments based on income.
However, another injunction preventing the SAVE Plan’s student debt forgiveness provisions – which sought to forgive student loan balances entirely after a certain number of payments – remains in effect.
Republican-led states had filed lawsuits arguing that the administration exceeded its authority with the SAVE Plan.
