The CDC recently released a draft clinical practice guideline that updates and expands the 2016 CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain.
The updated, voluntary guideline provides evidence-based recommendations for clinicians who prescribe opioids for outpatients 18 years of age and older with acute pain (duration less than one month), subacute pain (duration of one to three months) or chronic pain (duration of three months or more).
CDC is accepting public comment on the draft guideline until April 11. AAOMS is reviewing the guideline for possible comments to CDC.
